Questions Frequently Asked by New Clients

What is the design process?

1//  Start by reading through all the information provided on this page which answers many questions about what it's like working with us.

2  //  If this is all still looking good to you, scroll down and fill out the Project Discovery Form below. Tell us about your business or nonprofit, and a bit more about which services you need. Next, scroll down to the bottom of the page and schedule an online chat for us to get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit.

3  //  After our chat, we'll put together a proposal, which will include a proposed timeline, our availability and a contract for you. Once you’re ready to roll, sign the contract. A signed contract and 50% deposit is required on all projects before we place you on our schedule and give you the next available project slot. We will also ask you to gather visual inspiration for your website/brand so we can get clear on the design and style of your project.

4//  Next we will have a checklist for you to fill out with prompts to make sure you have all your materials ready before we start on your design.

5//  You will gather all the content we need and save it in the Dropbox folder we create for you. Photographs and text often dictate the design direction of a project so we usually require all content to be ready before we start on your design.

6//  When your project slot time arrives, we begin the initial round of design concepts. In 5–7 business days, you will be presented with your first round of design proofs. You review the design proofs and let us know what you love, like, and what's really not working for you. We then make your requested changes and edit the designs. You then have one more round of proofs to make your final requests for changes and we make final tweaks until every design detail is perfect and true to your brand!

How soon can you start?

Typically, work is booked 2-3 months in advance, but a quicker turnaround is sometimes possible. Scheduling depends on two things: (1) how quickly you can begin to gather your content, and (2) our availability.

What are your typical turnaround times?

On average, a Brightworks project takes 3–6 weeks from start to finish. This is only an estimate. The actual time depends on the scope of your project and how quickly you deliver materials and feedback to us when we request them!

How many rounds of revisions are included?

We offer 1 or 2 design options with 2 rounds of revisions with each of our standard packages with the option of purchasing more revisions for a small fee if necessary. We have found that most clients are more than happy with their design after they have gone through the design process with us and been provided with 2 opportunities to request changes or revisions.

Once it goes live, can I update my website myself?

Yes. All project assets will be released to you at the completion of the project. You will get a login to the backend of your site, where you can make updates to all your pages whenever you want. You can easily add photos and change the text. Brightworks clients have access to a private login area with lotts of helpful resources. You'll find step-by-step instructions on how to update your site and post to your blog and you'll find other useful resources we think might help you get up to speed in no time!

Can you maintain & update my website for me?

Yes, of course! We love our clients and are happy to stay connected after your work goes live!  If you want us to handle changes to your website, we can make changes as needed. We have four update packages available: every 3 months, every 6 months and once a year. Substantial changes (like site overhauls or major additional functionality) are fully scoped out with a new estimate and contract.

Are your designs mobile responsive?

Yes, mobile responsive coding is included with all our designs.


Do you do other work?

Yes. We can put together a custom package or work on hourly rates depending on the nature of the project. Examples of "à la carte" items we've designed for clients are:  e-mail newsletters, blog graphics, mailer cards, event invitations and even podcasting and video. Contact us to chat more & to have us add extra work into your proposal.



A 50% retainer is due by the start of the project and the remaining balance is due upon completion. All payment is accepted via check or credit card unless otherwise arranged. A nominal fee is added to each credit card transaction.


Due to the highly customized nature and careful attention that goes into each project we are unable to issue any refunds after the project start date. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before we will start on your design–however, if you feel at any time during the design process that we are not creating the look you are wanting, then you may cancel your order and you will not be required to pay the remaining balance.


What are your office hours?

Brightworks Studio operates from 8:30am-4:30pm EST Monday–Friday.


Do you offer phone consults after the project is complete?

If you need a phone consultation, let us know and we will assign your consult a slot on our schedule so that we can protect that time for you.  Phone consults are charged at a fee of $50 per hour. Otherwise, we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have free of charge via email.
